Banks Strengthen Responsible Lending Standards Amid Retail Loan Growth

Indian banks are strengthening their credit assessment processes as retail loan demand continues to grow across the country. Lenders are placing greater emphasis on repayment history, income stability, debt-to-income ratio, and credit scores before approving new loans.

The move is aimed at promoting responsible lending while maintaining the quality of loan portfolios. Banking experts say borrowers with strong repayment records and healthy CIBIL scores are more likely to receive faster loan approvals and competitive interest rates.

Banks have also encouraged customers to maintain good financial discipline by paying EMIs on time, keeping credit utilization low, and avoiding unnecessary loan applications to improve their borrowing eligibility.
